Philippa Daniels

Philippa joined Ākarana Chambers in May 2024 following admission as a barrister in New Zealand. She has practiced at the English Bar for over 25 years, appearing at all levels up to and including the Court of Appeal.

Following completion of her pupillage at a specialist Chancery chambers in London, Philippa built a civil practice specializing in commercial, property and insolvency matters.

She is a qualified mediator and has acted both as counsel and mediator in a significant number of mediations.

In 2018 family circumstances dictated a move to New Zealand and she was awarded a Masters in Law by Auckland University in 2019. She was granted permission to address the High Court in advance of admission to the New Zealand Bar (delayed by Covid) to allow her to represent the successful defendant as sole counsel in a five day High Court trial in 2021.

She has extensive experience in both New Zealand and England in Commercial, Property and Insolvency litigation and has also acted in disputes involving equity and trusts and wills and estates. She retains her English practicing certificate, meaning that she is well placed to advise and represent clients in both New Zealand and England and Wales.

She is able to assist with all aspects of disputes involving injunctions, including worldwide freezing injunctions, registered title fraud, franchise disputes, disputes arising out of deceased estates, boundary disputes, agreements for sale and purchase of interests in land, caveats, directors’ disqualification proceedings.
